Sturgis, SD (October 14, 2021) – Cancer sucks, we can all agree. Watching children going through the challenges associated with cancer treatments is very painful for the families, friends, and the children themselves.
Care Camps was created by the KOA (Kampgrounds of America) in 1984 to provide opportunities for children with cancer to attend and participate in medically supervised camps. Not only do the kids have fun with others in similar situations, but they’re also able to continue receiving treatments during their stay.
Leavitt Recreation & Hospitality Insurance (LRHI), an affiliate of Leavitt Group, is an independent insurance agency based in Sturgis, South Dakota. Since 1981, the agency has helped insure over 3,500 campgrounds and resorts nationally, so it was an easy decision to align with an organization like Care Camps, given the crossover of interests.
Chris Hipple, RV insurance professional with LRHI shared, “Care Camps came to an agency meeting and showed a video sharing their story. There was not a dry eye in the room, and we were all moved and touched. It became obvious that we needed to help.”
Hipple added, “The initial sponsorship is just the beginning as we look for other creative ways to get our employees, and even our customers, involved to send as many children to camp as possible. You can look for the Care Camps logo in our staff signatures and proposals for insurance. You can also donate directly from our website or on LRHI.net.”
As a sponsor of Care Camps, LRHI has already donated $7,000 towards the purchase of a Ford Mustang to be raffled off at the KOA conference in Baton Rouge in November. Attendees at the upcoming Yogi Symposium and at the KOA conference can also support Care Camps. They should look for the giant inflatable axe-throwing game at both events. Attendees can donate $1.00 per axe throw and LRHI will match all bull’s-eyes with $1.00 each. All funds raised from these initiatives will be donated to Care Camps to help forward their mission. The inflatable axe-throwing sets have been donated to KOA and Yogi for silent auction — event attendees can bid and take one home for a new fun activity at their park that is “insurance safe.”
The LRHI theme this year is “Better Together.” Whether it’s marshmallows and chocolate, or Leavitt and your park, as a pair we’re both better. The Leavitt team looks forward to seeing everyone face to face this year, whether it’s over coffee, at a picnic table, or in the conference halls.
